As most VoIP providers are going to meet the FCC deadline there are still some struggling with the idea saying, "the decision ultimately reduces alternatives for customers and stifles innovation". VoIP providers have had since May to comply with the FCC orders insisting providers of Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, to certify that their customers will be able to reach an emergency dispatcher when they call 911. Dispatchers also must be able to identify the caller's phone number and location.
The motion for stay was filed on Nov. 1, initially by Overland Park, Kan. - based
Nuvio Inc. and later added to their suit:
Louisville, Ky.- based
Lightyear Network Solutions LLC McLean, Va.- based
Primus Telecommunications Group Inc.'s subsidiary Lingo
Atlanta, GA - based
Telecom International Inc. The companies will continue to pursue their appeal of the regulations.
