Edge-Core, Brand Division of Accton Technology, announced the availability of its new 802.11b/g Wi-Fi phone that utilizes Skype software. The mobile phone comes with Skype Internet communications software, and offers great voice quality, mobility, and cost savings. The WM4201 Edge-Core Wi-Fi phone for Skype offers all of the Skype calling features, along with an IEEE 802.11b/g wireless connection and candy bar shaped design to help users reduce communication costs and move at the same time.
"The WM4201 Edge-Core Wi-Fi phone is one of the first mobile products with Skype offering the flexibility to enjoy the benefits of Skype calling while away from your computer," said June Chao, Edge-Core Senior Director. In addition to the availability of standard SkypeIn, SkypeOut, and Skype Voicemail features, the WM4201 also comes with Wireless
Multi-Media (WMM) to improve voice quality and WPA/WPA2-PSK for secure wireless connectivity.
To help users easily set up their home networks, Edge-Core offers a specially designed Wireless Cradle Access Point (AP) (model: WA4101-CAP), which charges the Wi-Fi phone and provides access to the user's wireless network. The Wi-Fi phone and cradle AP with charger received the 2006 iF Design award for design excellence.
Combining the powerful communication functions of Skype with the power of mobility, the Edge-Core WM4201 will be available in Q3 the end of July with a suggested retail price of 199 euro excl. VAT. Please note that Skype and WM4201 Edge-Core Wi-Fi phone are not replacements for your ordinary telephone and cannot be used for emergency calling.
