Intrado Inc., a global provider of integrated data and telecommunications solutions and leading provider of VoIP E9-1-1 services, announced an agreement with CounterPath Solutions, Inc., the leading provider of VoIP and Video over IP SIP soft phones. The companies will work jointly to integrate Intrado V9-1-1 Services with CounterPath's soft phone application, allowing Intrado to extend its VoIP 9-1-1 Automatic Location capability to VoIP end user devices.
Intrado's demonstration in the Northwest earlier this year tested various location determination technologies and their ability to integrate with V9-1-1 Services. With increased mobility of users and VoIP devices, the next step to supporting more responsive VoIP E9-1-1 location capability is through tighter integration between an end user device and the 9-1-1 network. Together with CounterPath, Intrado will enable such capabilities as direct and automatic registration of the end user's device, thus providing a platform to exchange location information and support public safety class E9-1-1 service delivery.
"Intrado continues to drive innovation for E9-1-1 solutions in order to provide the best location determination solution to VoIP customers and subscribers," said Stephen Meer, Intrado chief technology officer and co-founder. "Our alliance with CounterPath illustrates Intrado's commitment to working with other industry leaders to develop VoIP E9-1-1 solutions for emerging technologies."
"As mass market adoption of VoIP increases, the need to support E9-1-1 in a fixed or mobile environment will become more important," said Donovan Jones, CounterPath president and chief operating officer. "Our unrivaled knowledge of soft phone applications combined with Intrado's 9-1-1 expertise will provide VoIP users with seamless E9-1-1 delivery."
