Avistar has been granted an additional U.S. patent: 7,421,470, relating to dynamically changeable associations between users and endpoint devices -- such as desktop computers, laptops, PDAs and cell phones. Issued today, September 2, 2008, this latest patent, which joins two other VoIP patents issued during the past two months, expands Avistar's intellectual property coverage in the areas of login-based, real-time VoIP and text-based instant messaging.
Additionally, on August 20, the European Patent Office independently confirmed Avistar's intellectual property standing in these same important areas by granting a European Patent application, comprehensively covering instant messaging, VoIP and videoconferencing that employ login-driven routing.
Avistar intends to nationalize the EP grant in the U.K., Germany, France, the Netherlands and Sweden, all of which are large markets and manufacturing environments for instant messaging, VoIP and videoconferencing products and services.
All of these recent patents have a priority date of October 1993, and as such, predate numerous patents in instant messaging, VoIP, and videoconferencing.
