SAFARI C(Cubed) Goes to College

The agreement calls for Plymouth State to deploy SAFARI C(Cubed) to a pilot group of faculty, administration and students, as part of a comprehensive evaluation of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technologies. SAFARI C(Cubed)'s unique architecture will enable Plymouth State to support SIP-based residential devices in dormitories and TDM and VoIP applications for University offices.

The trial is the second deployment by Cedar Point in the campus and enterprise VoIP market. Last year, the company successfully conducted a trial with the University of Massachusetts -- Amherst. Subsequent plans are being developed to commercially scale this deployment.

CSR launches UniVox Mobile to enable mass market dual mode VoIP mobile handsets. A market, according to ABI Research, that is expected to grow to over 300 million handsets in the next five years. The UniVox Mobile reference design contains all the additional hardware and software to turn a mobile handset into a wirelessly enabled handset that can take and make Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) calls. The hardware element of UniVox Mobile is based on UniFi, CSR’s single chip WiFi solution, and also includes Bluetooth functionality via a choice of BlueCore4-ROM or BlueCore5-FM. In addition to supporting VoWiFi, UniVox Mobile also enables WiFi to be used as the bearer for other services, such as web browsing and multimedia streaming.

Order for 100,000 IPTV/VOIP Set Top Boxes

TechnoConcepts announces that its subsidiary in China, Jinshilin Techno has received from the Shanghai Forest Electronics Technology a product supply and sales contract for 100,000 set-top boxes integrating both Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Voice Over IP (VOIP) phone services. The contract represents the first such purchase order pursuant to the Cooperation Agreements between Jinshilin Techno and Shanghai Forest, under which Jinshilin Techno expects to ship a total of two million IPTV/VOIP set top boxes to Shanghai Forest by the end of 2009.

Shanghai Forest has agreed to pay in excess of $9 million for the 100,000 boxes, with 30% of the price of each shipment to be paid in advance. The first shipment is for 5,000 units in February 2007, ramping up each month to a shipment of 30,000 units in July 2007.
