BroadSoft announces the winners of its BroadSoft Xtended Voice Mashup Contest. Winning entries include applications for disaster dispatching, accounts receivable and an Adobe Air development mashup.

The Xtended Voice Mashup Contest challenged Web 2.0 and telecom developers to combine BroadWorks VoIP features with other Web-based services including customer relationship management tools, business collaboration and social networking sites. Telephony applications such as SMS, voicemail, fax and mobile clients also qualified for submission.

3CX Phone Systems for Windows was named as a silver medal winner of the "2008 Editor's Best Awards" in the Messaging category by Penton Media's Windows IT Pro magazine.

The award also singles out Verizon Business for working with customers to offer hybrid solutions -- combinations of services from the company's VoIP portfolio that enable customers to create a single, network-based solution to meet their business needs. The award notes the particular benefit this versatility presents to customers with more complex networks.

Seven leading providers of VOIP services received 2008 PilotHouse Awards from Nemertes Research, based entirely on ratings from hundreds of IT executives.

"This research is a must-have for companies evaluating a new VOIP strategy, or reassessing an existing one because it relies on real experiences from real customers," says Robin Gareiss, executive vice president and senior founding partner, Nemertes Research.

As part of the Unified Communications and Collaboration research project, Nemertes received 555 ratings of VOIP providers and conducted analysis on VOIP best practices. Providers with the highest average scores in each award category won PilotHouse Awards.

A new on-demand networking service that enables Verizon Business IP Trunking customers to improve the efficiency of their VoIP networks has been recognized by Technology Marketing Corporation's publication INTERNET TELEPHONY as a 2008 TMC Labs Innovation Award winner.

The Verizon Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks (BEST) service enables IP Trunking customers in the U.S. to use idle VoIP trunk capacity in one location to accommodate an increase in traffic from another location. The BEST service capability helps customers better manage their local and long-distance traffic by sharing capacity on demand. This offering, introduced in December 2007, is currently available in 350 U.S. metropolitan markets to customers with select IP Trunking plans.
