VoIP Still a Challenge for Industry Leaders

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is driving one of the most far-reaching technological and commercial transformations of the decade. End-users worldwide are increasingly switching from traditional telephony to the versatile capabilities of VoIP. The financial, organizational and technological opportunities are huge - and so are the challenges.

Most industry experts agree that a general confusion and lack of strategic direction concerning VoIP has hindered the technology's adoption at many organizations that would benefit from it. That's why the industry's most visionary minds will gather to participate in VoIP: Transforming Business Horizons, an executive roundtable produced by Larstan Business Reports and scheduled for May 24-25, 2006 at the Omni Chicago Hotel. To reserve a chair at the table, contact: managing director, Jennifer O'Grady, 240-396-0007 x 902 or jogrady@larstan.net.

Webinar on Introduction to VoIP Voice Quality Testing

PMC-Sierra, Inc., a leading provider of broadband communications and storage semiconductors, will present a live webinar on VoIP voice quality testing on Thursday, January 26, 2006, at 11 a.m. Pacific Time (2 p.m. Eastern Time).

What to Expect

Driven by downward price pressure from ever-increasing competition and consumer demand for enhanced services, carriers are seeking to leverage VoIP to reduce capital and operational costs and to provide innovative value-added features. However, meeting customers' voice service quality expectations set by legacy circuit switched networks will be necessary for the mainstream market penetration of IP telephony. Fast, accurate and non-resource-intensive voice quality testing is key to speeding VoIP equipment and network design and deployment, as well as to meeting service quality objectives in operation.

"Enterprises are still experiencing a large gap between the theoretical capabilities of their IP telephony systems and the actual quality of service that their employees and customers are receiving," said Guthrie. "Despite the increasing popularity of IPT, we've found that many enterprises are still experiencing quality issues caused by packet loss, delay, jitter, latency, and the competition for bandwidth between data and realtime applications."
