VoIP E911 Coverage for the Nation's Largest Population Center
Intrado Inc.
, a global provider of integrated data and telecommunications solutions and leading provider of VoIP E9-1-1 services, today announced that it has deployed Intrado V9-1-1 Services in Los Angeles County. With this deployment, Intrado becomes the first VoIP E9-1-1 services provider to meet Los Angeles County's stringent operational requirements for VoIP E9-1-1 service delivery.
Los Angeles is the nation's largest population center, with the highest number of VoIP subscribers in the country. In accordance with Los Angeles County requirements, Intrado worked with public safety officials from the County to develop, load and manage geographic information system (GIS) shape files denoting public safety answering point (PSAP) emergency service number (ESN) boundaries and the associated boundary data for each Emergency Service Zone. These boundaries represent the appropriate combination of police, fire and medical response agencies. Intrado completed test calls into PSAPs within the metropolitan area, confirmed receipt of the call and its associated information in the required format, and verified the ability to transfer the call to another PSAP.
"Our work with Los Angeles County demonstrates the complexity associated with providing consistent and reliable VoIP E9-1-1 delivery across the nation," said Stephen Meer, Intrado co-founder and chief technology officer. "Each of the nation's more than 6,000 PSAPs has a unique set of response agencies, operational requirements and geographic boundaries, all of which are subject to change at any time. Intrado is able to normalize this dynamic operating environment to provide a scalable and effective means of providing VoIP E9-1-1 coverage nationwide."
