BroadSoft PacketSmart Momentum Builds as Demand Grows for End-to-end Quality of Experience for IP Voice and Video

broadsoft_logo.jpgBroadSoft reports strong momentum for its PacketSmart line of business. In the three months since BroadSoft acquired Packet Island, a provider of Quality of Experience monitoring and assessment solutions, the company has quickly made progress in product development and customer traction, as well as introduced a new commercial licensing model, capitalizing on the growing demand for services that ensure a superior experience for end-users.

New Service Enhancements Ensure a Superior Experience

In an effort to ensure service providers deliver a superior experience for real time, multi-media communications solutions, BroadSoft made an immediate investment in expanding the capabilities of its PacketSmart solutions. New features and functionality currently under development include:
  • High-definition Voice support - PacketSmart’s network VoIP readiness monitoring and assessments services now include HD network deployments and HD quality metrics
  • Network discovery - Service provider field engineers can perform discovery of network elements at the enterprise site to better profile the local area network before VoIP or video deployments.
  • QoE Alerting - Service providers can set QoE threshold metrics and receive alerts of problems via various methods SMS, email, Simple Network Management Protoco before the enterprise discovers and reports an issue.
  • Media loopback - Service providers can run media tests from the enterprise/service provider demarcation point to end-user IP phones to simplify the deployment verification process and enable remote troubleshooting.
New Licensing Model in Response to Service Provider Demand

Service providers want to choose from multiple licensing options and deployment models to best meet their evolving business needs. BroadSoft announces a new licensing model for PacketSmart solutions to complement its traditional subscription-based model that enables service providers to experience faster provisioning, higher availability and lower costs of their VoIP and video deployments. Service providers can now license the software directly from BroadSoft, while leveraging the existing PacketSmart infrastructure for hosting rather than deploying the platform internally.

There is a gap between network performance and QoE for the end user, and service providers are held accountable for the end-to-end delivery of their VoIP services. Network monitoring capabilities are critical to their success, enabling them to increase customer loyalty and drive multimedia service revenue growth.

NuVox to Leverage PacketSmart for VoIP Offering

With a customer base of over 90,000 across sixteen states, NuVox is one of the largest Competitive Local Exchange Carriers in the United States. NuVox will use PacketSmart for assessing and verifying VoIP deployments and troubleshooting difficult-to-identify issues that affect call quality. The company is planning a deployment of PacketPro, which will provide their field service technicians with the capability to perform VoIP network assessments, VoIP deployment verifications, and collaborative VoIP/data diagnosis.

BroadSoft has launched a program with the goal of enabling customer premise equipment manufacturers to embed PacketSmart VoIP lifecycle management agents in devices for the small office/home office and small and medium-sized markets. With a PacketSmart embedded agent, service providers can remotely characterize VoIP quality issues and gain visibility into the root cause of the problem in lieu of a monitoring appliance.
