Intrado Nation's Foremost Provider of VoIP 9-1-1 Service
Intrado Inc.
, a global provider of integrated data and telecommunications solutions, announced that it has reached several key milestones in the delivery of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) 9-1-1 service for its VoIP Service Provider (VSP) customers. Intrado's long history as steward of the 9-1-1 network enabled the emergency communications leader to anticipate and prepare for the impacts of Internet telephony and specifically VoIP on the nation's 9-1-1 infrastructure. Consequently, Intrado was first to market in 2003 with solutions that supported the delivery of VoIP 9-1-1 calls consistent with 9-1-1 technical and regulatory parameters at the time. Intrado then continued to work in concert with public safety agencies and regulatory bodies, including the FCC, to provide true E9-1-1 call delivery solutions.
In July of 2005, Intrado began deployment of its nationwide VoIP E9-1-1 network in New York City, one of the country's largest metropolitan service areas. This network allows VoIP E9-1-1 calls to be delivered into the native 9-1-1 network. Earlier Intrado had completed a successful native E9-1-1 network deployment with the state of Rhode Island. Today, Intrado is delivering VoIP E9-1-1 service to public safety answering points that serve approximately 180 million people in the country. Intrado will continue to extend coverage in the coming months to cover substantially all of the U.S. population during 2006.
Comprehensive VoIP E9-1-1 call delivery requires that the call be quickly routed to the correct public safety agency with accurate caller and location information. Intrado's aggressive pursuit of connectivity agreements with all major local exchange carriers, in conjunction with its steering agreements and ability to provide MSAG-valid 9-1-1 addresses to PSAPs, contributed to Intrado's success in being the first to deliver these essential elements.
"Thirty-three VoIP Service Providers, with over one million subscribers, have chosen Intrado to provide VoIP E9-1-1 services," said Stephen Meer, Intrado chief technology officer and co-founder. "Clearly the viability of true VoIP E9-1-1 call delivery has been proven. Our focus must continue to be on the nationwide rollout of this essential service."
