Truphone Selects the Ruckus ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi System
Ruckus Wireless
announces that
Truphone
has deployed the Ruckus ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi system to support voice over Wi-Fi requirements within its corporate headquarters in London. Truphone is using the Ruckus ZoneFlex system within its corporate network to provide extended coverage and predictable Wi-Fi network services for some 40 staff that use its mobile Voice-over-IP technology to conduct day-to-day business.
Recently named a 2007 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, Truphone markets and operates critically-acclaimed technology that allows cell phones to route calls over the Internet using Wi-Fi rather than via traditional mobile operators. This enables users to make free mobile calls, send text messages, eliminate monthly fees and inbound charges.
Truphone are, naturally, highly-demanding users of Wi-Fi to give staff true mobility around the office while reducing operational costs.
Alistair Campbell, Chief Technology Officer at Truphone commented: "Wi-Fi is increasingly seen as a powerful business tool and many companies are starting to deploy mobile VoIP to benefit from low-cost, but good quality communications in the office and on the move. We use Ruckus routers in our offices for voice and data and have found them excellent at consistently delivering a high quality service."
Taking Wi-Fi Beyond Convenience
Truphone recently installed the new Ruckus ZoneFlex system including the ZoneFlex 2925 line of Smart Wi-Fi access points. Optimized for delay-sensitive traffic such as voice over IP and IP-based video applications, ZoneFlex leverages patented BeamFlex technology that utilizes a high-gain smart antenna array. BeamFlex uses sophisticated new techniques to extend Wi-Fi range and improve predictability by focusing Wi-Fi signals over the highest performing radio frequency (RF path) and automatically steering these signals around interference as it occurs.
"Voice is a natural application for WiFi, but the combination of small payloads and high jitter sensitivity makes it difficult to build networks that support high call densities," said Bill Kish, Chief Technology Officer at Ruckus Wireless. "To make matters worse, many handsets have poor radio performance due to power and space constraints. Our application-centric approach to QoS and adaptive radio optimization allows Ruckus APs to work around these problems and deliver call quality so good you'll forget that you're using cheap unlicensed spectrum."
