Mindspeed Announces Wireless Software Suite for Comcerto
Mindspeed Technologies, Inc.
, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, announced a comprehensive wireless software suite for its Comcerto voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) processor family.
Mindspeed's new wireless software solution and integrated Comcerto processors offer the industry's most highly optimized platform for implementing GSM/W-CDMA and CDMA media gateways with support for IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) and fixed-mobile convergence applications.
"The convergence of IP-based voice, video and data with mobile access, as well as the increased adoption of 3G technology, is driving a new generation of more cost-effective and compelling subscriber services," said Raouf Halim, Mindspeed's chief executive officer. "Our comprehensive wireless software suite builds on our core wireless codec technology and works with our wireline and cable software offerings, allowing Comcerto customers to rapidly expand into these exciting new market opportunities."
In addition to IMS and fixed-mobile convergence, Mindspeed's wireless Comcerto software suite provides full support for VoIP over wireless access networks, high-speed wireless data access and multi-purpose 3G and WiFi/WiMax services.
The Comcerto processor platform was designed to support wireless services, and integrates both packet and signal processing into a robust and flexible architecture that includes advanced voice signal processing and high-quality echo cancellation. It provides all necessary media stream processing and transport layer building blocks to enable telecommunications equipment to seamlessly transmit highly secure, carrier-class-quality voice, video and data across both wireless and wireline networks. This frees equipment manufacturers to focus on product differentiation at the application layer.
Product Details
Mindspeed's new wireless software suite builds on the company's earlier Comcerto software offerings and its proven wireless codec portfolio, while adding all necessary protocol stacks and other packet-processing software to ensure interworking with 3G, 2G+ and WiFi networks. It also adds voice quality improvements, supports all ATM and IP networks and provides a roadmap to future wireless codecs.
Interworking with 3G networks is provided via Iu/NbUP protocol stacks, while 2G+ interworking is supported via TFO and circuit-switched data (CSD). IMS capability is also included to support wireless and wireline convergence. For WiFi interworking, Mindspeed has provided software for Unlicensed MobileAccess (UMA). To improve wireless voice quality, Mindspeed's patented intelligent transcoding technology eliminates the transmission delays inherent with typical transcoding implementations that require multiple transcoding steps as wireless traffic moves between wireless GSM and CDMA handsets and wireline phones.
Mindspeed has an extensive wireless voice heritage and has made significant contributions to developing industry standards including the discontinuous transmission (DTX) of speech in CDMA2000(R) systems, as well as GSM AMR technology resulting in the 3GPP AMR-NB codec for W-CDMA networks.
Mindspeed's Comcerto processor is field-proven in multiple CDMA wireless networks throughout the Asia Pacific region, and will be deployed in major North American GSM/W-CDMA networks beginning in 2006.
A pioneer in the development of complete system-on-chip and bundled software solutions for today's wireline VoIP media gateways, Mindspeed earlier this year added a VoIP-over-Cable software suite specifically designed for cable networks in combination with its Comcerto processor family.
Mindspeed's Comcerto processors combine high-performance digital signal processing (DSP) cores and a packet- processing engine with industry-standard streaming packet interfaces to provide a high-density VoIP system-on-a-chip.
Comcerto processors offer telecommunications equipment manufacturers a simple and cost-effective solution for designing complete systems capable of transporting carrier-class voice across both wireless and wireline networks, and are ideally suited to the convergence of voice and mobile technology in next generation, VoIP-based telephony applications.
The Comcerto wireless software offerings are available in both CDMA and W-CDMA versions. The SWO-002-CDMA and SWO-003-WCDMA are each available now for a one-time licensing fee of $75,000.
