AT&T announces that it has scored the highest percentage of responses for unaided brand awareness associated with global data Virtual Private Networks in Telemark's most recent Global Brand Appeal survey. A total of 660 data network managers located in 27 countries were asked the question: "When thinking about companies that provide international data VPN (such as IP VPN, VoIP, MPLS, Hosting, Frame Relay, ATM, etc.), which companies come to mind?" The highest percentage of respondents (25 percent) named AT&T in their answers.

The SIP Forum announces the introduction of the SIPconnect Compliant program, a unique certification mark created to ensure interoperability among equipment manufacturers, software providers and service providers, as well as to promote further adoption of Session Initiation Protocol as the standard for VoIP communications.

The SIPconnect Compliant logo serves as the "seal of compatibility" for companies that have agreed to abide by the terms of the licensing agreement, and is permitted only on compliant equipment that has been rigorously reviewed and tested. Purchasers relying on the certification mark will enjoy increased interoperability levels. Several industry leaders and SIP Forum members have recently been awarded the SIPconnect Compliant mark, including Acme Packet, BroadSoft, Cbeyond, Digium, Ingate Systems and McLeodUSA.

Packet8 announces it has signed an agreement with a service provider that will soon exit the VoIP market calling for the exclusive recommendation of Packet8 as the replacement VoIP service for its soon-to-be-orphaned subscribers.

According to the agreement, Packet8 will be the only brand presented and promoted to the roughly 12,000 subscribers who will be left without VoIP phone service after the company winds down its VoIP operations over the next three months. Truphone will give the first public demonstration of a Voice over Internet Protocol over Wi-Fi phone call on the Apple iPhone. Chief executive officer James Tagg will make the VoIP call in front of an audience of 350 delegates to DEMOfall 07 in San Diego, CA.

The company will also give a demonstration of an application that mashes up social networking site Facebook and traditional telephony. Any Facebook user will be able to click on a friend's Truphone 'Call Me' button, and a free phone call will be initiated to whichever phone their friend has chosen. This will mean free calls to real phones for everyone in the Facebook community.

Vonage announced that it will seek to overturn today's U.S. District Court jury verdict in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Sprint Communications Company L.P. and continue focusing on providing reliable, quality digital phone service.

Federal court jurors in Kansas City, Kansas ruled in favor of Sprint, finding that Vonage had willfully infringed Sprint's patents in providing its VoIP telephony services, and awarding $69.5 million in damages, which the jury found to be five percent of Vonage's revenues over the infringing period. Vonage will ask the court to set aside the verdict, and if it is not granted, will vigorously pursue an appeal of the decision, including the underlying issue of liability and the willfulness aspect. Vonage believes any damages awarded are inappropriate. In addition, we will seek to develop technological workarounds that don't infringe on Sprint's patents.

Research and Markets has announced the addition of “2007 North America - Telecoms, Broadband and Mobile Statistics (tables only)” to their offering. In 2006, the Canadian mobile and broadband sectors continued to enjoy double-digit revenue growth rates. In contrast, local service and access revenues have remained stagnant whilst long distance revenues continue a downward trend. This has led to further regulatory amendments in 2007 towards a lighter-handed more market-based framework.
