Mystery Virtual Phone Now Confirmed as Wizzl

Wizzl is preparing to launch a virtual phone that is unlike anything anyone has used before. Wizzl offers the general public a preliminary beta version.

Over the last three years Wizzl has developed free communication software which will allow its users ('Wizzlers') to make free voice and video calls over the internet, and calls to local and international phones and mobiles from only 1.5 Eurocents per minute. And it doesn't stop there; with Wizzl's all-in-one virtual phone, Wizzlers will have direct access to live TV, internet radio stations and the most popular web games around. Personal photographs, music and videos will also be at users' fingertips.

Expanding on Wizzl's present features, Jaap Korevaar continues, 'Wizzl offers a global rate of 1.5 Eurocents per minute for calling phones and mobiles in over 50 popular destinations across the world, and connects to over 70 international destinations not available with other internet telephony software. Unlike other online VoIP services, Wizzl software does not depend on super nodes; which is good news for processing speeds and even better news for bandwidth usage. On 23 November, we will officially launch the beta version for desktops and laptops. But I invite all interested people to get connected today and be among the first to discover the possibilities of Wizzl with us. And in the spring of 2008, Wizzl will also be available for mobile phones.'

Skypephone Partnership Prompts Strong Carrier Interest in mVoIP Platform

SkypePhone.jpgChallenger Mobile has received a heightened level of interest in the company´s turnkey white-label Mobile VoIP platform from wireless carriers and service providers across the globe since the Hutchison 3/Skypephone joint service announcement on October 29, 2007.

In their joint press release, Hutchison 3 (branded as 3) and Skype announced a partnership in which Skype users in a limited seven-country geography can sign-up for 3G mobile service on 3´s network, after which they can place free Skype calls to other Skype users. To receive free Skype-to-Skype calling, users with existing mobile phone service must either switch their account to 3, or purchase and carry a second, Skype-enabled handset, and sign a contract with Hutchison 3 to handle the billing for all non-Skype calls. If a user is outside of Hutchison 3´s network, roaming charges apply, which can be exorbitantly expensive. The Skypephone is dual-band and will not function in the United States.

VoIPo3G Could Grow to 250m Users by the End of 2012

paper.gifA new research study from Disruptive Analysis shows that evolution of mobile VoIP will rapidly eclipse voice over WiFi and become a mainstream form of communication. The analyst firm predicts that the number of VoIPo3G users could grow from virtually zero in 2007 to over 250m by the end of 2012. This is comfortably in excess of the expected number of FMC users with dual-mode VoWLAN/cellular phones.

The report demonstrates that it will be the operators themselves which will be mainly responsible for the push towards VoIP being carried over cellular networks. Carriers will become increasingly attracted to VoIPo3G because it will enable them to fit more phone calls into their scarce spectrum allocations, reduce operating expenses by combining fixed and mobile core networks, and launch new services like push-to-talk and voice-integrated “mashups”. VoIPo3G also fits well with the move towards femtocells. Future generations of wireless technology – 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution), 3GPP2 UMB (Ultra Mobile Broadband), WiMAX – are “all-IP”, so unless mobile operators continue to run separate voice networks in parallel, they will inevitably transition to VoIP at some point.

In-call Advertising to Go Global With Oridian and JaJah

jajah_logo.bmpOridian and JaJah announce a partnership agreement in the new and growing in-call advertising sector. Jacob Nizri, CEO of Oridian said today, "Ad networks are the bridge between advertisers and publishers and we're always on the lookout for new ways to bring dot.com publishers to international advertisers. Our partnership with JaJah is a significant development for our business, but more than that, it's revolutionary in terms of technology and the development of online advertising: in-call advertising gives call sponsors the ability to reach a global audience on a truly personal level. By its very nature, JaJah creates permission-based, targeted audiences that Oridian can reach effectively, bringing new business to non-US advertisers and monetizing US publishers' international traffic. US publishers currently sell 80% of their ad space but are missing out on 20% of their potential audience. That's a number they can't afford to ignore. We bring them together with that missing 20% - at the lowest industry cost."
