NextAlarm Announces Premier Dealer Program for Resellers

NextAlarm Monitoring Services announce an addition to its VoIPAlarm reseller program. With the new Premier Dealer Program, dealers are able to have the entire suite of VoIPAlarm services branded with their company name and logo including customer facing websites and smartphone applications.

VoIPAlarm was designed to help alarm dealers and monitoring centers solve the problems alarm systems experience when connected to VoIP telephone services. The majority of alarm systems installed in homes and businesses today are unable to reliably communicate over VoIP, as they were designed to work with the specific tolerances and DTMF ranges of older, non-digital phone lines. VoIPAlarm allows these alarm systems to communicate over broadband with the addition of a single, inexpensive adapter, called the Alarm Broadband Adapter. The adapter also works to re-enable alarm communications in installations that are no longer connected to phone lines at all, such as homes whose residents have switched to using cell phones. Unlike other broadband alarm products, VoIPAlarm is compatible with most alarm systems built in the last 20 years, and functions over any broadband Internet connection. As previously announced, many alarm systems connected to the Alarm Broadband Adapter can be remotely armed or disarmed through the smartphone apps or website.

Digium and Open Source Community Release Asterisk 10 at AstriCon

digium_logo.gifDigium releases Asterisk 10. Asterisk is a communications platform that allows developers to create powerful business phone systems and unified communications solutions. Since its introduction 12 years ago, Asterisk has been used, free of charge, in nearly every country of the world to power telephone and other communications systems. It has been downloaded millions of times, including two million last year alone, establishing Asterisk as the most popular open source telephony engine.

The most important new feature in Asterisk 10 is its wide-band media engine. Digium has replaced Asterisk’s telephony-grade media engine with a more advanced one, providing support for studio-quality audio and a nearly unlimited number of codecs. By supporting high and ultra high-definition voice, Asterisk can now be used to power communications applications that would have otherwise required specialized or expensive equipment and service in order to convey nuances in speech or emotion. Digium has also updated Asterisk’s media support for Asterisk 10, with several new codecs, including Skype’s SILK codec, 32kHz Speex support and pass-through support for CELT.

Report: North American VoIP Access and SIP Trunking Services Markets

While overall adoption of SIP trunking has been a slow and steady movement forward in the last five years, the adoption rate has not met predictions. Issues around interoperability and limited standardization have restrained many service providers from gaining greater market penetration. Ongoing standardization efforts by major industry organizations such as the SIP Forum and SIP Connect are likely to eventually eliminate the need for multiple certifications on different platforms, which are time-consuming and costly. In the meantime, service providers are engaging in extensive interoperability testing with platform vendors, thus expanding their target customer audience.

Mobile VoIP Users to Reach 640m by 2016

juniper_research_logo.pngMobile VoIP specialists are expected to favour alliances with social media, gaming and software partners over partnerships with mobile network operators in coming years, as social media becomes ever more mainstream, finds Juniper Research.

Juniper Research anticipates that the role of voice within the broader communications market will change, and it will become increasingly available as an extension to other applications. Companies such as Vivox are pioneering such services in the gaming industry, and Skype's acquisition by Microsoft and several Facebook alliances with VoIP providers will accelerate this trend, finds the report 'Mobile Voice & Video Calling: Strategic Opportunities & Business Models 2011-2016'.

We have adjusted the product so that anyone who downloads the app can now try it without making a payment."
