Frontier Communications announced its pending acquisition of Verizon Communications’ local wireline operations has received approvals from the California Public Utilities Commission, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada, and the Public Service Commission of South Carolina. The transaction, announced May 13, 2009, includes Verizon’s local exchange businesses in 14 states, including parts of California, and certain customer relationships for long distance services, broadband Internet access and broadband video.

BroadSoft has completed the acquisition of privately held, Cupertino, California-based Packet Island, Inc. Packet Island is a pioneer of SaaS-based quality of service assessment and monitoring tools for VoIP and video networks and services.

This acquisition expands BroadSoft's solutions portfolio for service providers, enabling them to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy VoIP and video services with guaranteed end-to-end "carrier-grade" service delivery. Service providers can now ensure significantly enhanced QoS assessment and monitoring capabilities of their communications services.

Sigma Designs and CopperGate Communications have entered into a definitive agreement for Sigma to acquire CopperGate in a cash and stock transaction with an agreed value of $160 million, net of CopperGate’s cash at the closing of the transaction.

CopperGate is a leading provider of silicon-based modem solutions enabling distribution of broadband digital content over all three types of wires in the home: coax, phone and power. CopperGate solutions are deployed by service providers enabling the delivery of HDTV, VoIP and fast Internet services. CopperGate is headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel with operations in the U.S. and Taiwan.

These solutions enable service providers to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy VoIP and video services with guaranteed end-to-end "carrier-grade" service delivery.

Phone Power has announced the acquisition of all residential Broadvox Direct VoIP customers. The transfer will occur in stages, starting on 9/15/09 and completing in early October. All services and rates will continue uninterrupted. This move has allowed Phone Power to expand its nationwide coverage into even more Tier 2 markets and Canada.

VoIP Logic announces an agreement through which it will absorb Sundial Network Services, a VoIP engineering professional services firm. Sundial CEO, Ardeshir Ghanbarzadeh, will assume the role of Vice President of Operations for VoIP Logic.

This action combines two segment leaders into one company; more than a dozen former Sundial customers will now be served under the VoIP Logic umbrella by the same Sundial personnel. In addition, these service providers will enjoy access to VoIP Logic’s extensive technology and managed services portfolio, while VoIP Logic customers will enjoy immediate access to an expanded array of professional services.

Broadview Networks has signed an agreement to acquire select assets of Natural Convergence Inc. of Ottawa, Canada. NCI is an award-winning provider of hosted VoIP applications targeted at the small- and medium-sized business market.

With the purchase, Broadview Networks will acquire the intellectual property, previously purchased under a license agreement, including the source code, of NCI’s premier application Silhouette. Silhouette is the enabling technology behind Broadview’s industry-leading hosted IP phone solution, OfficeSuite.

Telesphere has entered into an agreement to acquire the VoIP services business of Unity Business Networks, a fast growing provider of IP services with market presence in Denver, Portland, Ore. and Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The transaction requires regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the third or fourth quarter of this year. Following the transaction, end-user customer services for both companies will be marketed under the Telesphere brand name.

IIS Group has acquired the assets and operating network of Ring 9, of Gainesville, Florida and their VoIP hosted PBX solution. The VoIP business assets acquired by IIS serve small business and enterprise customers in thirty-four states from coast to coast. The acquisition adds approximately 3,000 customer lines to the IIS VoIP customer network, and gives IIS both expanded geographic reach and an established commercial customer base for its growing VoIP business. IIS now serves VoIP customers throughout most of the continental United States.

IPtimize has acquired the assets and operating network of National Telecom & Broadband Services, a Florida corporation including Teliphonex, their business-class VoIP hosted PBX solution. Based in West Palm Beach, Florida, the commercial VoIP business assets acquired by IPtimize serve small business and enterprise customers in multiple metropolitan areas including West Palm Beach, Miami, Orlando and Tampa, Florida. The acquisition adds approximately 1,000 customer lines served by IPtimize and adds both expanded geographic reach and an established commercial customer base to the growing VoIP business at IPtimize.

SabSe Technologies has acquired jaxtr. Over the past several years, jaxtr has built a robust consumer service currently providing free and low-rate international calling to over ten million members around the globe.

Under the terms of the deal, SabSe will maintain and expand upon the jaxtr service, which will continue to operate under the jaxtr brand, alongside the company's existing SabSeBolo brand. SabSe's acquisition of jaxtr brings together two valuable consumer and business telecom applications now on a common platform. Jaxtr's large active user base will enable SabSe to accelerate deployment of its additional applications, and to leverage an instant audience for its innovative technology.

Ixia has signed a definitive agreement with Catapult Communications, under which Ixia will acquire Catapult for $9.25 per share in cash. The transaction is valued at approximately $105 million, or $63 million net of Catapult’s cash and investments. The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter.

Acme Packet has acquired privately-held Covergence for consideration valued at approximately $22.8 million, consisting of approximately $22.2 million of Acme Packet common stock and an aggregate of $0.6 million in cash payments to stockholders of Covergence and tax withholding payments. The Maynard, Massachusetts based company is an emerging, innovative provider of software-based session border controllers for delivering VoIP/IP telephony, Unified Communications and Service-Oriented Architecture applications within global 1000 enterprises.

Broadweave has reached an agreement to acquire Nuvont Communications’ Provo customers. The acquisition will give Nuvont customers a single network provider for all services, and enhance their video and data options. The acquisition also increases the Broadweave customer base by more than 10 percent, and completes the integration of all wholesale and retail services for residential customers in Provo.

Telekenex has reached agreement with One Connect IP to offer One Connect IP existing VoIP customers a migration path to Telekenex Hosted VoIP service. Telekenex Hosted VoIP is a fully hosted and managed business-grade telephony solution with no up-front capital expenditure.

The goal is to provide a seamless transition and maintain service uptime for One Connect IP customers without losing any of their current features. As a result, One Connect IP customers can keep all of their existing onsite equipments and can maintain all their existing PBX features. Additionally, customers migrated over to the Telekenex Hosted VoIP service will take advantage of the larger range of services that Telekenex offers, over a larger private national footprint.
