Acme Packet announces that Etisalat Lanka is deploying Acme Packet Net-Net session border controllers to support its IP interconnects for international calls. Etisalat Lanka uses IP interconnects to enhance international voice traffic and selected Acme Packet to secure and optimize those connections for expansion. The deployment of SBCs also complements Etisalat Lanka’s migration to all-IP networks for lower total cost of ownership and the delivery of new services.

Voxbone announces that ippi will be giving all its subscribers free iNum numbers from Voxbone. With customers in 100 countries, ippi has a leading spot among SIP providers in the French-speaking world and has been experiencing 100 percent annual growth since 2007.

iNums are phone numbers with the global area code for IP communications (+883). By providing every customer an iNum in addition to the customer’s regular phone number, ippi will extend the subscriber’s range of free calling to include communication with all other iNum users, anywhere in the world. iNum numbers are distributed and routed by a growing list of carriers, service providers and enterprises. Where not routed by a local carrier, iNums also can be reached by the iNum initiative’s network of local access numbers in 45 countries.

Vyke announces it has launched a branded Vyke UK website for Vyke Mobile. Customers accessing the www.vyke.com website from the UK will now see a UK specific portal, supplementing the established global site and offering the same products and services, but with rates and offers specifically targeting the UK mobile VoIP market. The initial launch, to selected potential customers, will be followed up with further marketing campaigns over the coming months.

VoX Communications has successfully implemented the Ojo Vision Digital Video Phone within its network and will become one of the first companies to offer a seven-inch business class video phone with unlimited calling plans for both voice and video.

Market research firm Infonetics Research released its third quarter (3Q10) Service Provider VoIP Equipment and Subscribers and IMS Equipment and Subscribers market share and forecast reports.

"The number-one story that will come out of 2010 for the IMS and carrier VoIP equipment markets is China, where conditions are driving volumes up and pushing prices down. There are large network transformation projects underway in China, so demand for equipment is very strong, but at the same time, vendors are willing to push the pricing limits to get into strategic accounts. In the third quarter of 2010, every product category except media servers was impacted by pricing pressures, so while shipments were up for most segments, total worldwide revenue took a hit. Looking at the long-term prospects, the network elements that are best poised for solid growth are those that facilitate the migration to all-IP networks, such as session border controllers," notes Diane Myers, directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research.

Broadcom has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Gigle Networks, a privately-held company that develops system-on-a-chip solutions for home networking over power lines.

When combined with Broadcom's world-class portfolio of wired and wireless solutions for the home, Gigle Networks' technology will widen the breadth of Broadcom's intellectual property and enable the design of more highly integrated SoCs that allow whole-home network coverage in a wide variety of global deployment scenarios. By adding powerline to its technology portfolio, Broadcom will be able to provide additional functionality to its customers in broadband home segments including set-top box, broadband carrier access and wireless router.

Codenomicon announces that Ari Takanen, CTO of Codenomicon, will give a presentation on threat assessment and proactive defense against VoIP vulnerabilities at the 3GPP ETSI Release 8 IMS Implementation Workshop. The event will take place 24-25 November 2010, at the Sophia Antipolis technology park, in southern France.

Ari Takanen will give his presentation "Recommendations for VoIP and IMS Security" on Thursday, November 25th. He will talk about VoIP security threats, focusing on the attack surface analysis and threat assessment of IMS Release 8 architecture. The presentation is based on research and numerous audits on live IMS deployments across Europe performed during early 2010. Presentation also reviews results of selected security tests using test automation technique called fuzzing, which finds and identifies both known and unknown vulnerabilities in communication technologies. The presentation is partially based on the Securing VoIP Networks book Ari Takanen wrote together with Peter Thermos.
