GlobeTel Communications Corp., announced the launch of VozBrasil (http://www.vozbrasil.com), a service which will allow Brazilians to call their friends, relatives and business associates in the US through a local number, at local rates, without the need for broadband internet access or any special equipment. Also, separately, over the next two weeks, GlobeTel will be launching a service that allows Brazilians to obtain a US phone number that, when called, will forward those calls to their local phone number in Brazil -- all at low VoIP rates. This is the first of many services that will allow people across the globe to attach US phone numbers -- and thereby forward local US calls -- to their local phone numbers in their own countries.

Vonage Equips Over 70 New Counties With E911

Vonage America Inc., a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading Internet telephony provider, announced that it has been continuing to roll Enhanced 911 (E911) service -- to large and small cities across the U.S.

For the past six months, Vonage has been turning up on average over 112 calling centers in more than 45 new counties each week. ICE in Costa Rica Selects Lucent Technologies

Lucent Technologies announced that Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), the sole telecommunications provider in Costa Rica, has awarded Lucent a contract to deploy elements of Lucent's IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) service architecture and a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) solution to offer next generation voice and data services.

ICE initially will use the Lucent solutions to provide voice over IP (VoIP) calling, pre-paid services and virtual private networks targeting the international segment for both business and residential customers.

IP Unity, a leader in carrier-grade media servers, application servers and real-time multimedia applications for IP and TDM networks, has installed two Mereon 6000 Media Servers and Release 3.1 of Mereon Unified Messaging and Mereon Conferencing applications software for the University of Minnesota -Twin Cities (U of M). The U of M - Twin Cities is the second-largest campus in the U.S. and home to 49,450 students and 2,300 faculty members. This large-scale deployment was awarded to IP Unity in competitive bidding. The platform is fully installed and in operation with 18,500 users.
